SmaCom Trade in MEDIA. Latifundist from 22.02.2022 Why gas prices have risen, when to expect them to fall and whether LNG fuel will save Europe

Andriy Zerechenskyi - Head of SmaCom Gas natural gas department gave an interview to Latifudist and answered current market questions. Main thoughts:

The pandemic, which stopped energy-intensive enterprises, played a significant role in high gas prices. The market is accustomed to the usual load and to the fact that there is demand, and in the spring of 2020 there was no such demand. That is why we observed an unprecedented situation when gas was sold in Ukraine for UAH 2,000 per 1,000 m2.
Already in 2021, against the background of historical lows, we saw a historical maximum. This was more due to economic recovery after the pandemic. And also, due to the imposition of certain factors: low temperatures, geopolitics and economic acceleration.

We started 2022 with the highest prices, which ranged from 46-47 thousand per 1 thousand meters to 60 thousand per 1 thousand meters.

The situation with record high gas prices cannot last long, because the end consumer cannot pay for an unreasonably long resource for a long time. According to analysts, this story will be resolved by mid-2023.
